Why Did You Decide to Become a Periodontist?

Dr. Rutledge wanted the opportunity to do four of his most favorite things every day as part of his lifelong career, which are 1) working directly with people, 2) working with his hands, 3) applying scientific principles to his daily tasks, and 4) utilizing the latest technology. Dentistry is the perfect combination of all four of these elements, and he’s never regretted his decision to enter into this field for a moment.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Univeristy of Nebraska Dental School building

After achieving his undergraduate degree and Master in Secondary Teaching at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Dr. Rutledge pursued his dental doctorate at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry. He also completed his residency in periodontics and his Master of Science in Oral Biology at the same school. Today, he is Board-Certified in Periodontology and Implant Surgery by the American Board of Periodontology, which means that he has demonstrated a comprehensive mastery of these specialty services and a commitment towards exceeding mandatory educational requirements.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Doctor Rutledge and his family

Dr. Rutledge and his wife Jillian are the proud parents of nine children (five girls and four boys), so you can probably guess that one of his favorite hobbies outside of work is catching up on sleep! He also enjoys serving in the family’s church (Saint Teresa) as an acolyte and instructor for RCIA, playing racquetball, hunting turkey and pheasant, and (of course) spending quality time with his loved ones.
