Frequently Asked Questions

As part of our philosophy of providing trustworthy, personalized periodontal care, we invite our patients to ask any questions they might have about their treatment, be it periodontal therapy for gum disease, surgery to place dental implants, or other services. Below are some of the questions we often hear from new patients; check to see if any concerns you have are addressed here. If not, we invite you to call Pioneer Periodontics & Implant Dentistry to speak directly with our team.

How much does it cost to get a tooth pulled without insurance?

There is no “set-in-stone” price for tooth extraction. In addition to the location of the practice, there are various factors such as dental health that can impact the amount you end up paying. Additional fees might be applied depending on how difficult the tooth in question is to remove and whether sedation is needed. Note that if you do have insurance, the cost of the extraction will depend on what the insurance company and the periodontist have agreed on. Also, if you plan on getting dental implants after your teeth are extracted, you’ll have additional costs to think about.

What is the best way to find someone that places dental implants?

You should do your homework to make sure you’ve selected the best expert for the dental implant procedure. Periodontists are specially trained in the placement of dental implants, making them more suited for advanced procedures than regular dentists. Our team has multiple board-certified periodontists who have completed a number of course regarding dental implant surgery, meaning they’re skilled in restoring all kinds of smiles from the roots up. They are also qualified to perform a number of preliminary procedures such as bone grafting in order to make sure that the surgery can be performed successfully. In short, choosing a team of skilled periodontists is one of the best choices you can make if you want implants you can count on over the next several decades.

What level of education is required to be a periodontist?

Periodontists are expected to attend four years of dental school, which is the same level of education required of regular dentists. Then they need to attend a residency where they receive at least three years of specialty training. During this time, they participate in clinical trials where they learn how to treat gum disease more effectively and also become more familiar with the surgical techniques involved with dental implant placement. Then, to become Board-Certified, periodontists need to pass a number of oral and written examinations. We’re proud to have three board-certified periodontists on our team.

What do I do if I can’t afford a periodontist?

Dental insurance can help pay for part of your periodontal therapy. It may not cover dental implants, but you can usually expect it to help pay for other parts of the implant process. Our team members will help you maximize any coverage you have to lower the out-of-pocket costs of periodontal care as much as possible. We can also help you apply for a low-interest CareCredit plan that gives you additional flexibility in paying for your treatment over a given period of time.
